Roselyn's struggles for her dream job

"The career assessments confirmed that Office Administration was a good field for me. My training application was approved and I graduated with honors from a nine months long Office Administration program. After the practicum my employer hired me. I am so happy!!"

My name is Roselyn, I am a single parent of two boys. I have been doing cleaning jobs working around my children's schedules for about 10 years. I receive an Office Administrator diploma over twenty years ago but never had a chance to pursue my dream job due to personal situations in my life back then. For years I wanted to work as an office administrator but never knew how that could be possible. I was working as a casual housekeeper at a hospital for a couple of years when my hours were cut down due to work shortage and I ended up going on El benefits. During this difficult time, I learned that computers are each more advance compared to twenty years ago. I needed to get more training for better job opportunities especially to work in an office with scheduled days and hours to provide a better life for my children and myself.

As I was researching online on how to upgrade my computer skills, I read about Options and Whalley WorkBC and how, with their help, people got training and jobs funded by the Government. I went there and booked an appointment with an Employment Counsellor.

The Employment Counsellor discussed my situation and financial struggles as a single parent. She considered all aspects to get me funding for school and living expenses. In the meantime I attended workshops and assessments to learn more about myself and which job fields would best suit my personality and abilities. I really enjoyed the workshops plus they were fun.

The career assessments confirmed that Office Administration was a good field for me. My training application was approved and I graduated with honors from a nine months long Office Administration program. After the practicum my employer hired me. I am so happy!!

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to Options and Whalley WorkBC. I am so grateful for this opportunity which made my dreams come true.
