Nada's Journey in Canada as a New Immigrant

New Immigrant to Canada

I migrated to Canada in August 2022. When we landed, we were full of hope and started applying for jobs from the very next day. We posted our CVs to every job portal and waited to hear from companies, but never heard back. This went on for almost a month and our frustration kept mounting and savings kept running out as we were settling down here. And that is when a friend told us about WorkBC Centre Newton and the help they offer to new immigrants in finding jobs. This was a turning point for me.

I was connected to my employment counsellor, Tejinder Sandhu, who scheduled very useful sessions for me to help me understand where I was lagging and why I was not able to get any responses from employers.

These sessions helped me learn how to effectively search for jobs in Canada, understand the Canadian work culture, helped me trim and style my resume to make it look good and helped me learn some very useful tricks to excel in my interviews.

Soon enough, I started getting calls from employers and I started putting into practice what I had learnt in my sessions at WorkBC and successfully got job offers with 3 employers!

WorkBC’s help and assistance did not just end here. They further extended a helping hand by taking care of my travel expenses to my office until I was given my first pay and helped me further by providing financial assistance to buy business formals (clothing).

I’d like to thank WorkBC for everything!
