Kamal faced many challenges when her industry was shutting down due to the pandemic and she lost her 10 years long employment. By accessing WorkBC employment services, she began to develop skills and her confidence skyrocketed. What’s more, Kamal found a community that supported her new career and made connections that got her a stable job. Here is her story.

"After working more than ten years in the food industry, the pizza store was closing its doors forever. Although I found this industry interesting, fast-paced, and lucrative my awareness of other careers was limited. I turned to Surrey-Newton WorkBC for help. The staff at the centre were friendly and welcoming.  My employment counsellor helped me tremendously and guided me through my career exploration process. She was always available for assistance.

WorkBC centre helps job seekers like me find a new career and offers many job search resources, workshops, employment counselling, training, assessments and more. Through all that, I was able to discover a new career for myself and completed a one-year diploma in Early Childhood Education, all funded by WorkBC. After graduation, I started working with a job coach at WorkBC who introduced me to employers and helped me find employment.

I will never forget my experience and career-altering journey with them. I hope my story can inspire someone else to reach their career goal and use the resources available at WorkBC."
